How to Get Those Gorgeous Apple TV Screensavers on Your Mac (or PC!)

While I haven’t gotten a chance to get my hands on the new Apple TV, I can’t stop reading/hearing/seeing the amazing new screensavers that were built into the Cupertino-based company’s new set-top box. The screensaver, dubbed “Arial” includes several “fly-over” style slow motion HD videos from all over the world.

It didn’t take long for a programmer by the name of John Coates to put together an executable screensaver file that gives users the ability to display these gorgeous scenes on your Mac. The options give you the ability to select your favorite fly-over scenes and countries, and the beta release allows you to download the video files directly to your computer (necessary if you want to use the screensaver while disconnected from the internet). The brilliance in this file is that it actually pulls the video files directly from the Apple content server, and so far, Apple has been mum about their stance on the release. I recently heard on TWiT that there was speculation that these videos were recorded as a part of Apple’s infamous Maps rollout, and were sitting on them until the new device’s release earlier this month.

To download the Arial screensaver file for your Mac, visit Coates’s Github page. A PC version is also available here.

Cheers, Ty
