Pre-Baby Checklist: Safety with the Onelink Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm

It’s been truly a whirlwind of preparations in our home the last several weeks. Putting together baby gear, packing hospital bags, organizing work and schedules and deep cleaning have left our heads spinning. Expecting a new baby does help prioritize things that often fall by the wayside, like home safety and double-checking devices and equipment.

When we moved to New York a year ago, we didn’t put much thought into the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that existed in the older home we moved into. After we found out we were expecting, my fatherly instincts kicked in and each and every device was checked and replaced if necessary. I was surprised to see how many devices were in need of updating, so I took it upon myself to start looking for the best way to keep our home safe and secure in the twenty first century. Our home has three bedrooms and in the course of a month, we had changed the purpose of all three rooms. The master bedroom became Fox’s room, Fox’s room became the master bedroom, and the office was now the new nursery. We upcycled furniture, and thrifted items that fit our aesthetic to create a perfect atmosphere for a brand new baby boy. As we finished decorating our little man’s brand new nursery, I realized that we needed one more thing: A quality smoke and carbon monoxide detector and alarm for peace of mind when I’m away at work.

I was lucky enough to work with Onelink to install the Onelink Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm in the new nursery. Not only does it provide 2-in-1 protection against smoke and carbon monoxide, but the device is a smart home device that is always connected via wifi and the Onelink Home app. Mounting the device on the ceiling was straightforward and the instructions were well documented. I opted for the battery operated model so I had freedom to place it exactly where I wanted in the room. There’s also a wired version with battery backup if you’re replacing a hard-wired unit in your home. A satisfying ‘click’ into the mounting plate and the device was booting up for the first time. I was able to set up the Onelink device quickly and join it into my Apple Homekit setup.

Best of all, while I’m away from our house all day, I can be confident that all is safe because I get immediate notifications to my phone if the device detects any smoke or carbon monoxide in the home. It even specifies via voice alerts which room and what type of danger it is detecting.

I’ve been rapidly expanding our smart home device arsenal and have been absolutely loving the new freedom and peace of mind that comes with this emerging technology. When you’re putting together your smart home, be sure to include high quality home safety products like the Onelink Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm. I know I have plenty to worry about in the coming weeks: diapers, crying, not sleeping, etc but at least I know from anywhere in the world that my baby’s nursery is protected.

Cheers, Ty
