My new favorite acronym for 2018 is NOSH (Natural, Organic, Specialty, and Healthy foods) and has been floating around in my head for the last couple weeks. I know it’s cliche to talk about eating healthier and being more financially responsible to start a new year, but I can’t help but feel like something is different this time.
NOSH was coined by Grocery Outlet, a family-run line of high-quality and low-cost grocery stores. The third generation of the Read family is now running the business, with 280+ independently operated stores in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington.
We’re lucky enough to live close to several locations and I stock up on delicious foods every chance I get. In 2018 my wife and I have vowed to eat healthier, lean on organic products whenever we get a chance and just improve the overall quality of food that we eat. Plus we want to set a good example for our son to eat healthy foods and stay active.
One meal that I’ve been preparing almost every morning is so simple and fast, I’m shocked we didn’t start it years ago. I heat a pan with some coconut oil in it, crack an egg and cook it just to the point that the white is solid but the yolk is runny (this is sunny-side up if I’m not mistaken). Then I take a slice of Alvarado St. bread (best price I’ve ever seen it was at Grocery Outlet), toast it, and spread half an avocado on top.
I top the egg with some pepper and the avocado toast with some chili powder and various seasonings. Boom, a filling breakfast ready to get you started for the rest of the day.
If you haven’t checked out Grocery Outlet before, be sure to stop in. I was blown away with the high quality food and produce, and even more shocked with how much better the prices were than literally every other market here in Los Angeles.
For the best deals, be sure to check out the latest circular as well.
