A few months ago, I discussed my transition to the brand new Walmart Family Mobile plan and how blown away I was with the quality of the phone and the service. This article will serve as a follow-up after several months of service (and several FREE VUDU movies that are included).
Before transitioning to our new plan, we had a more traditional post-paid cellular service. Every bill was a surprise because of random fees/overages/etc. The variances would be 50% or more from month to month! My absolute favorite aspect of Family Mobile is that there’s no hidden fees. The website is easy to use and pay your bill, there are no surprises or hidden charges, and they’ve structured it so that everything is included – Unlimited Talk, Text and Data with 10GB of 4G LTE Data all for the price of $49.88. There’s no way to get charged more than you’ve agreed to.
The great thing is that there’s a great selection of phones to use on the plan. I picked up the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime for only $129, and I’m blown away with the performance. We were also able to add our other phones with the Starter Kit which includes a SIM card to use your own unlocked phone on this exceptional service. The Starter Kits are cheaper than before and now on rollback for just $19.88 (from $25). This special deal lasts until July 7th.
We’ve started a tradition in our family to have at least one “Family Movie Night” every month. The film is picked in advance, and we often will theme our snacks or meals to coordinate with the film and fully immerse ourselves in the experience.
Tonight’s theme is “Tokyo, Japan.”
My wife and I were lucky enough to experience Japan in 2014, and one of our all-time favorite films that captures the atmosphere and unfamiliarity of the country is Sophia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation.” Feel free to watch a short video of our trip (and note our stop at the now-famous New York Bar – frequented by Bill and Scarlet throughout the film).
Realizing we don’t own a copy of the movie, it was a no-brainer to redeem one of our free movie rentals (a $7 value!) and we didn’t have to spend a dime to take us back to the land of the rising sun.
To fully relive our experience, we decided to satisfy that sweet tooth by picking up a package of Swedish Fish to create “Swedish sushi.” Right now, Walmart offers a 1.9lb bag of Swedish Fish for only $4.48 on rollback. Be sure to look for the all-new “New Look! Same Fish!” packaging. Paired with marshmallows that play as sticky rice and your favorite green colored rolled fruit snack as a seaweed stand-in, we were able to create some spectacularly realistic rolls to pair with the film. I even chopped up several fish to give the impression of “Swedish roe” for some cut rolls.
If you have any questions about making the transition to Walmart Family Mobile, simply visit the Walmart Family Mobile Social Hub to find out when a Walmart Family Mobile in-store rep will be available to assist you in your store. And best of all, you’ll be able to snack on Swedish Fish samples on site.
What’s your favorite themed movie night? Do you go all-out for any movies or television shows? I think up next we’re going to have to start dressing up for weekly Game of Thrones episodes.
