For my entire life, if you asked me what my favorite food is, I would emphatically exclaim “CEREAL!” I just love the crunch, the milk, the sweetness, and, most importantly, how easy it is to throw a bowl together. I will argue up and down that there is not a better combination of ingredients or preparation than a fresh bowl of cereal in the morning. Or evening. Or at lunch. Or at 3:15 am.
Some of my favorite memories growing up involved sitting at our kitchen table in the morning before school eating a bowl of cereal, reading every single panel on the box, and chatting with my mom about anything and everything. It was some of the most cherished memories that I had with my mom. To me, a bowl of cereal represents home, family, and comfort. I knew that there would be a bowl filled with cereal and the jug of milk ready for me to pour waiting for me in the kitchen, and my mom never missed a morning making sure I had everything I needed for that day at school. I really don’t know how she managed to keep everyone’s lives in order on top of everything she was responsible for day-to-day.
And my mom’s all-time favorite cereal was Honey Bunches of Oats®. It was actually the only cereal that we both agreed was excellent. Some mornings, she would sit and have a bowl with me before I scrambled off to school, and not too infrequent were evening sessions. We would bust out the TV trays, pour some bowls and watch Jeopardy or Friends – classic 90s television. Actually, I’m still watching those shows today, so classic (20)20s television, too.
We always had a box of Honey Bunches of Oats on the regular grocery list, and it’s one of the few products that always reminds me of her because of the joy it brought to her. The memories we had together over those mornings and evenings are ones that I’ll cherish the rest of my life.
But now I’m a father and I realized that my biggest is already five years old in the blink of an eye. I realized that our typical, everyday mornings together are not unlike the ones with my mother I cherished, and that we’re building new memories together that he’ll remember the rest of his life.
But that brings me back to Honey Bunches of Oats, a cereal that I did not think could get any better. A classic. But they went and did it. Now, together with the incomparable granola bunches are a layer of frosted oat flakes, adding a touch of sweetness, making it all that more satisfying.
I have to say that it’s a hit with both Fox and myself. Honey Bunches of Oats always felt more satisfying than other cereals, and adding a little touch of extra sweetness makes mornings together with Fox all that more enjoyable.
Best of all, new Honey Bunches of Oats® Frosted Cereal is available now nationwide – and don’t fret if you’re a fan of the original – as this new product is in addition to the classic Honey Bunches of Oats cereal you know and love.
